Program notes:“Dances with Fire” begins with a fast-paced, multi-meter groove which evokes an image similar to that of a tribe dancing in a circle around a large bonfire. Towards the middle of the piece, this fiery dance slowly cools down into a calmer, more elegant waltz. But ultimately, the fire’s energy cannot be contained, and the original fire dance returns even stronger!

ABOUT THE COMPOSER
Born and raised in Southern California, I grew up in a large and loud family where I first developed a love for music. I grew up playing the piano, clarinet, guitar, and upright bass in my schools’ ensembles, and led as drum major for three years in my high school’s marching band.I studied music composition at Brigham Young University-Idaho under Dr. Sue Neimoyer, and served as President of the BYU-I Student Composers Society. I also studied the clarinet with Dr. Adam Ballif, which inspired a love for composing for the clarinet and other similar wind-instruments.Upon graduating, I joined the BYU-I team as an adjunct professor, where I now teach music theory and composition courses as well as private composition lessons. I have been happily married to my dear wife, Camryn, since December 2023.Writing music brings me joy and purpose, and I love hearing what my listeners' think of it, so please reach out and let me know!
